In changing sheets, diapers et when your loved one is bed bound:.
H/C I liked to use a large soft cloth pad for turning my Jerry in bed. It was placed from under his rib area to below the hip area. When turning always make sure the legs are not bent as this can break ankle or leg..keep them in a natural alignment. I found actually getting my 5'3" frame on the bed (as he slept in a queen size bed) reaching over his body grabbing the corners at the top and bottom of the pad and gently pulling him toward me worked best. When pulling him back to the other side I would stand on the floor. If Jerry would scoot down in the bed I would reach down from the top and grab each corner and pull him up on the bed with the same pad. The mattress did go up and down so bringing the legs up a little helped perform this task more easily.
You can get these pads on the Northshore site I gave you. In a pinch I even use a baby crib pad at times but they some times have wrinkles..you want a smooth pad..any wrinkles can cause a break down in the skin. I bought several colorful large regular cotton tee shirts and cut them up the middle in the back to within about 2 inches of the collar..this way I could pull the shirt to the side when he was laying on his back and he was not laying on wrinkles to perhaps cause a bed sore. When bed bound always turn every 2 hours..sitting up on the side of the bed when possible. I always sit beside Jerry never left him alone..he could only do this for about 2 months. I got a sleep number bed and that was great for allowing him to sit up for me to feed him and shave him and to just look around..also good for his legs to raise them up and down for circulation..I highly recommend this type of bed. He was put in a hospital bed but tried to crawl out so I had him put back in his own bed the next day and got this type bed for him. it worked really great.
Put a blue Chux under your loved ones head and shampoo their hair. Wash their face and shave if needed. Wash the rest of the body..the private area last. Always rinse well and apply Sween Cream if you wish this does not have to be done every day. I always put it on after shaving. You can also brush the teeth at this time. Keep a clean towel over his body at all times to protect his dignity.
Then change the bed linens..before starting the bath I laid everything out close to the bed so I could reach them without leaving the bed side. Checking Jerry's legs and arms that they were laying straight.. grabbed each corner of the pad under Jerry and by pulling the corners gently rolled Jerry toward me....placing him on his side and made him comfortable. Went to the other side facing his back brought the dirty sheets, dirty diaper and pads up to his body and tucked them underneath. At this time place a blue chux close to the body and wash the back and buttocks. Dry well and rub on Sween Cream lightly.
After putting the clean sheet on the mattress as far as I could I then laid the clean bottom sheet..clean cloth pad..the blue chux pad and clean diaper (in that oder) up against his body...(he is on his side with his back toward me) tucking under him sort of in a roll and eying it so when he was rolled back again he would be on top of the clean diaper and sheet....this take practice but it soon goes very fast. Reached over him grabbed the top and bottom corners of the large pad pulled him back over to me ..this placed him on his side on the clean sheet/ and part of the diaper, et. Placed 2 pillows in front of him to keep him from rolling off the bed. Went to the other side facing his back side....reached under his body...pulled out the dirty sheets, pads and diaper and removed them from the bed. Reached under him again pulled out the clean sheet, pad and diaper and made that side of the bed. Reached over him grabbed the pad (checking his legs and arms) and gently pulled him back on to the clean sheet and diaper. ..laying on his back . Fasten the diaper. Get him dressed at this time...a top or whatever you choose. Put your clean top sheet on. By this time your loved one is ready for a rest period as they feel so nice and clean. Whew!!
Always smooth out everything before rolling him back..even a small wrinkle can cause a bed sore. Oh yeah unfasten the diaper tabs before rolling over. A tip sort of push down on the mattress when tucking things under the body...that helps and take off your rings anything that might scratch.
....................................................................................................
Changing a diaper...
To change a diaper you do the same thing..unfasten the diaper and roll him onto his side. Facing his back area roll and tuck the dirty diaper up under his body. Clean this area with Sween perennial in warm water or a gentle liquid soap. ..rinse well and pat dry. Sometimes apply Sween cream to this area. Align the clean diaper (one side rolled up) and tuck the rolled up side of it under his body. Gently with the pad roll him back over to the clean diaper placing him on his side. Go to the other side pull out the dirty diaper and dispose of it in a close by trash can..reach under the body and pull out the rolled part of the clean diaper..gentle roll him back on to the entire clean diaper..with a clean tub of water and Sween perennial wash the front area clean and pat dry...sometimes apply Sween Cream lightly and fasten the tabs of the diaper. Or you may choose to wash the front area before rolling him over. Always keep his body covered. Always wear protective gloves to clean up the perennial area.
Relax...Have a coke/and or ice tea and chocolate bar..you deserve it.
( I used 2 of the blue chux..laying one down below his bottom area and another one up higher placing it on top of the bottom one just below his bottom..this way if he had a accident the diaper didn't get it would run down on the pads placed over the cloth pad.) With men things seem to move around in the night and they have more accidents.

H/C....products for giving care for incontinence and also bed baths.
I liked to order pads, diapers, disposable gloves, blue chux, great wipes from this site. You can order in bulk and that is cheaper and they usually get to your home the next day. I will say the Walgreen brand of diapers beat those on this site and depends in holding up..but not a big difference.

I found the Sween Products kept Jerry's skin so nice..he never had a break down of skin or a bed sore and was bed bound for 8 months. I can only share about those I have used. There are some new products.
.................................................................................................................
The Perennial Wash was wonderful to bath the perennial area when giving a bath or after a bowel movement. Just get a small tub of luke warm water and squirt some of the wash in the water and cleanse this area. Pat dry and follow with the Sween Cream..just a very small amount goes along ways. It keeps the area moist and free from chafing breaking down and sores.
Throughout the day you can also spray the Perennial Wash on the area that has been cleansed from a BM with the big wipes from Northcare. It will remove odor and really cleanse the skin nicely.
....................................................................................................................
The Sween cream is great to put on the face after shaving and cleansing the face. Just a small amount to rub gently on the face keeps it wonderful. If you see the skin is thin then you don't rub lotion on..you gently pat it on the skin so it doesn't tear. Jerry's skin became very thin on his arms. I often rubbed Jerry's legs with this after he became bed bound..you could tell it felt so good.
..................................................................................................................... ...........
The one time he did get sores a Hospice RN put powder on his back ..he had bad reaction and sores popped up right away. I cleansed his back and put Sween Baza Critic-Aid Skin Paste very thinly over these areas and each time he was given his bath...it worked wonders.
If I seen red place on the bony areas like the hip I would gently rub a thin layer of the Baza on that area and it would usually be gone the next day. Always read all the info on the label..you don't want to get this in the rectal area of a loved one ..or in your eyes.
I typed this from memory..Hope these two are what you wanted..couldn't find the old ones. ....HUGS
