ALERT!
Call Sen. Kay Hutchinson By Friday, July 14, 2006
On June 13, the House Appropriations Committee voted to cut funding for Alzheimer research in the Labor-Health and Human Services-Education (LHHS) bill (HR 5647). On a more positive note, the same bill included restored funding for three key Alzheimer care programs — the Alzheimer's Call Center, the CDC Brain Health Initiative and Alzheimer State Matching Grants Program to 2006 funding levels. Action on these issues has now moved to the Senate.
The Senate Appropriations LHHS subcommittee is working on the LHHS appropriations bill that determines funding for Alzheimer research at the National Institutes of Health and for other Alzheimer care programs cut in the President’s budget proposal. The Senate LHHS subcommittee will vote on the bill in mid-July.
The Senate Appropriations LHHS subcommittee must include an increase in the federal funding for Alzheimer research and restore funding for care and prevention in the LHHS Appropriations bill.
Sen. Kay Hutchison is a member of the Senate Appropriations LHHS subcommittee.

Tell the Senator that the Labor-Health and Human Services-Education bill must:
Increase funding for Alzheimer Research at the National Institutes of Health by $60 million to maintain the momentum and hasten the discovery of effective preventions and treatments.
Continue funding for Alzheimer Programs that serve people with the disease and their caregivers and improve the overall health care delivery system, including: the National Alzheimer Call Center; the CDC "Brain Health Initiative"; and the Alzheimer's Matching Grants Program.
Remember to mention your name, home address and zip code
Alzheimer advocates must be the loudest and largest group heard in order to successfully restore the cuts ! We need to make more noise by flooding the phone lines of the members of the Senate Appropriations LHHS subcommittee.
